Celeb Concert Series

This past weekend the almost famous Miguel stopped by UF to lay flowery sprinkle laced angel whispers into our ears. As soon as word spread that Sammy Davis Jr., Jr. would be bringing his Dominican "Laid to the Gawds" tresses to the Gator Nation panties started dropping. A few boxers too. But we won't get into that. In addition to hosting two afterparties at the same damn time, the grown up version of Little Richie on Family Matters had all of UF in a tizzy.

The Relationship Problem

We come upon one of the most hotly debated topics ever to hit the campus, The Black Community. The only other rival to is the debate as to when The Set died. This is that miraculous topic that organizations reach for when they have no other ideas for programming. No other topic has created so much hate, hurt so many feelings, and created as many bitter women as the Relationship Issue.

Cuz It's Cold Outside

The Epitome of LaTrace "Sensitive Ninja" Brown.
It’s officially cold, The Black Community, and that means a shift in the Black mindstate. Once the weather becomes cooler, everything switches around. All the ratchedness calms down, and activities within The Black Community start to slow down a little. It's like we all realize that we're in college again. The rumor is that Black People don't like cold weather (except for Light Skinned folks), so let's see how the weather affects The Black Community.

We Are FAMUly!

Monday marked the 124th Anniversary of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, also known as FAMU, or “That School Where All the Black People Are”. FAMU is that school we always like to compare ourselves against when something goes bad here at the Good Ol’ U of F. “Gator Football team is 0-12? “Well at least we’re still better than FAMU”. The UF admissions committee reverts back to segregation as its student admission policy? “Well, that’s because we don’t want to end up like FAMU”. Naked pictures leak of the community’s favorite shone? “It’s still not worse than that FAMU Sextape, did you see that lacefront???” No matter what tragedy happens on the UF Campus, the consensus within The Black Community is that we will forever be better than FAMU. Which got us to thinking, what if UF was just like FAMU? That is, what if UF was composed of just The Black Community? *Shudders* Cue the ripples and fade to black.

The Treatise of The Greeks

We keep on rolling, The Black Community, and we find ourselves in the midst of NPHC Week. Hundreds of potential hopefuls will attend all the events, convinced that they will be making a good showing to some organization, only to be slapped in the face with the unexpected: There is no Greek reward for attending the events! You’d be better off playing hide and go seek with interest meeting flyers around campus. One event, however, intrigues us “True Life I’m Greek: The Miseducation of Black Greekdom & This Title’s Too Long” Hosted by Lauryn Hill. We predict a heated debate, full of high emotions and weave throwing. Here’s our take on the event to come.

Salute Your Shones

It’s been a crazy 3-day weekend, The Black Community. We hope everyone had a great time making terrible alcohol-fueled decisions and clogging their arteries with Publix Fried Chicken. Arguably the best Fried Chicken in the world. THE WORLD. No Kanye West. We’re right at the start of the Football season, and that means a side hustle by selling tickets, and getting five shades darker in The Swamp as a drunk Chad and Lacey scream in our ears. As we come into the Football season we take a moment to give recognition to some of the real heroines of the era, the Football Shones.

What We Love: ShoneTV

It’s Monday, The Black Community, and that means it’s time for our favorite type of programming. Shone TV. Love or hate it, but the TV shows focused on privileged women with loose morals and bad tempers are all the rage in The Black Community. BET never had such good ratings until they started airing “The Game”. It’s about time they showed something other than nonstop reruns of Leprechaun 3. VH1, MTV, and even the “women upliftment channels” Bravo, Oxygen and Lifetime have cashed in on this phenomenon. Damn. It’s the life we all wish to lead, but don’t want to tell anyone. It's easier to just watch it on TV in the comfort of our own living rooms.

Let’s Chill: Vol 56.

Well damn. Can’t say you didn’t see this one coming, The Black Community. The all-important “Relationship Forum”. It’s a staple in The Black Community, combining all the joys of Maury, Jerry Springer, and those “Shone Shows” on VH1 and BET. Shouts to Single Ladies! The Relationship Forum is that one event that is always guaranteed to hit, no matter what. Just when you think The Black Community is on that “progression” vibe, and we are ascending to a level of cultural perfection, this forum slaps you across the face with reality.
