(That's an Oasis. Just go with it...) |
Was this the best OAS Show UF has hosted in a while? Probably. Was it the longest OAS show ever? Most definitely. We didn't even make it through the whole show. This year, OAS went full force with a strong NPHC showing, new freshman “Talent”, and a grown man crying. It was quite the spectacle. The amount of Black People at the event was shocking. Where did they all come from? It’s something that hasn't been seen since Cantina Fridays. Shout out to the integrated crowd too. It was looking like a GAP commercial in there.
The OAS Talent Show is always that time in the summer where you can REALLY evaluate the new Freshmen that come in. Surprisingly, they were well mannered and stayed on good behavior. They must of read that post we did on them being from Duval. Or they could be plotting a drive-by shooting. You can never really tell with these freshmen. As the first major event of The Black Community, they were out there dressed to impress. As a Black Person, it really doesn't matter if the event is just a Talent Show; you might be able to find your baby daddy in the crowd. You have to stay prepared. It was hilarious seeing girls all dressed in club wear and then taking pictures on picnic benches and posing on vending machines. Should make for a sexy picture. Shout out to Pepsi. Those freshmen girls were determined to get chose within those 10(!) hours spent at the show.
The NPHC made a huge showing this year, with 7 out of the 9 organizations stepping. We haven’t seen that many orgs in forever. Where you at BOTG? The Iotas did their routine “comedy show”, with jokes, #Planking, and lots of #Pause worthy moments. Oh yeah, and stepping. The Ques performance was solid, with complex moves that would make Billy Blanks or any Zumba Instructor jealous. But then the Ques started taking off clothes, and girls started forgetting how to act. If it was possible to throw your virginity on stage, about 10 girls would have done so immediately. The Sigmas started throwing Capri Suns into the audience and reminded everyone the importance of health insurance. We hope nobody got hurt. State Farm should have been there. Like a good neighbor. Thank God the "Thirsty" girls were able to get quenched. They were getting restless because nobody was noticing their cute outfit! Shame. The AKA’s came and went, and then there was a line of girls directly afterwards, pens at the ready, already anxious to become a new member.
And then there were the Kappas. Nobody warned ol’ “J-Murda Da Fresh Kid” that it MIGHT have been a bad idea to play “Pretty Boy Swag” right in the middle of Krimson and Kreme Weekend. As soon as the song came on, Diamonds went up, shoulders started flying, and “Jerome Homeboy” went running off the stage crying. Damn. That ninja really got his feelings hurt. He was ready to snag LoQueisha and her lacefront and take her back to Lexington for the smash session. Kappas, you might need to issue him an apology. Just Kidding.
All the other acts were mildly entertaining, if not good commercials while waiting for the next NPHC organization. There were of course the Named Friend Cliques, probably titled: “Not Really Friends” or “B.A.D Singers”. They should only last a year before they all go to different Greek orgs and then proceed to hate each other. Be on the lookout for the Twitter War sometime next year. OAS themselves came out with a massive stroll that could give some NPHC Orgs a run for their money. OAS gets our vote to participate in FISS FEST next year. But perhaps the most entertaining, and still confusing part of the show was the singing of “You’re a Star” or “Boy You Need To Stop”, "Wish I Had Cash to Shop" or something. Actually, we didn’t know WHAT THE HELL the lyrics were. Nobody still does. The song was a hit though, and the whole crowd was singing STAR STAR STAR...or....STOP STOP STOP..or…SHOP SHOP SHOP right along with her. The song is really open to your interpretation. It’s deep like that. Someone needs to see about getting her a record deal. Or a MySpace page.
